  • Re: STOP using the "alpha" roll.

There are very good reasons why the Dog Whisperer episodes start with the warning about working with a professional before attempting any of the techniques shown. Of course, some are less dangerous than others, but even positive reinforcement techniques can reinforce bad behavior and allow it to continue...

  • Needing help on working with recall

Buster will be 2yrs old in November. He's had basic obendience and does really well. We still have some hurdles to work through (doorbell/people coming up to the door, etc) and we are working on that. He does pretty good onleash but will sometimes pull. When he does that, I immediately correct him...

  • Seeking Recomendations for a Trainer in South Loop Chicago Area

Hi There! My husband and I recently adopted a 5-year-old Boxer from a shelter. She's great with us, but shows dominance aggression toward other dogs and occasionally people. We're looking for a trainer in our area who either specializes in this behavior issue or has solid experience in dealing...

  • Re: This has been bugging me, what about Cesar's critics?

The instinctual pack hierarchy and dominance vs submission is seen pretty clearly in a litter of puppies in a video that I find very informative: http://leerburg.com/308.htm I don't necessarily agree with everything Ed Frawley says, but I respect his experience and many years of successful results...

  • Re: submission or Suppression

That is really well-said. There are really three types of behavior, which are (1) inappropriate, unwanted, and dangerous, (2) appropriate, non-problematic, and essentially OK, and (3) special, new, desired, and perhaps unnatural behavior, such as tricks and assistance functions. Anything in category...

  • What is this? Dominance?

I have a 9 year old Belgian Malinois. I adopted her from a rescue organization when she was 1. She had been in training for narcotic detection but was weeded out because of extreme gun shyness and fear of loud noise. She was adopted 3 times before I got her and returned for destroying furniture, jumping...

  • Re: Victoria Stilwell- discuss

I used to watch Victoria all the time. The dogs on her show were cute and I'm sure I learned something. She deals well with destructive and mischievous dogs and basic dog training. But I desperately needed help with a BITER, and only Cesar delivered. I think people focus too much on the person doing...

  • Re: Victoria Stilwell- discuss

Yes, I see your point that this is probably an attention-seeking behavior, but I think humping is also an instinctive precursor to sexual interaction, and the act of turning away is very similar to that of a receptive b*tch in heat. Of course, there are other triggers that must occur for continuation...
