    balancing the human mind

Hello.  I am naturally very anxious and nervous, often without realizing it.  Please share with me the tactics that you have used to get control over your emotions and energy.  I think it will help a lot with my dominant pup as well as my own well being.

The other day, I saw an episode of Dog Whisperer where Cesar said dogs were here for a reason, or maybe he was talking about a particular dog with its issues being in a particular family.  I now see how my life is blessed with Soju, my 10 or so month old and I'm hoping in learning to be a reliable and dependable pack leader in his eyes, I'll achieve balance in my own life.  I'm glad I have been given this "mirror," as Cesar referred to dogs as being, in my life now.

I remember when I was young, I could just turn off my mind and not think anything, observing sights and sounds around me and not feeling any particular way or having words in my head, etc.  As I've gotten older (only 27, but still...), I've lost that ability and became anxious as I mentioned earlier.

I've learned how to avoid him biting us any more, but he's still aggitated at times.  Through learning that with my local behaviorist, I've learned the physical actions to take with him, and through time, he's gotten much better.  I still think that I need to work on myself a lot more though, so please do share your tips and tricks to controling energy because I can use all the help I can get in that department.

    Thanks!

    Ben

    Re: balancing the human mind

I would start with a few thing here Ben.

There are certain things that cause anxiety and one thing i would do is cut out coffee, to much caffine is bad for you and causes anxiety and heart pulpetasion ( spelling??).

I would also stop worrying about what could happen because if it is going to happen there is nothing you can do to stop it ( unless its in your control ).

Focus on what you would like to be and work towards it. write down what you want to achieve and how you want to be .

Try medetation, this doesnt have to be done in a group or at a local class. You can do this at home for 30mins for free. you could get some books on this at the library.

    Drain, not control, emotions:

    www.rc.org

Natural process, like emptying a bathtub from the bottom instead of bailing it out at the surface. Wolves and dogs do it, too. Part of our animal (limbic) brain system, steeered by forebrain ("human" part of our brain).

PS, heart pulpetasion ( spelling??) = palpitation, but good post! :~)

Don't forget to use plenty of paragraph breaks (and short paragraphs), to make your posts as readable as possible for this ole geezerette. It will keep me calm/submissive, too. :~)

    Re: balancing the human mind

Thanks for the advice.  I'm going to try to do both of your advices.  I think it will be hard to find someone to release with though as I'm not really comfortable with too many people that way, but I think I can find other ways to release my baggage, or at least I'm going to make an effort now instead of fighting it 100% of the time.  I'll take all the advice I can get, so if anyone has any more tips, I'd be glad to hear those as well.
