    Hola from Spain

Hi to everyone at Cesar's Canine Palace, LOL.

We've only just begun to receive a tv channel that is showing Series 4 of the Dog Whisperer and watch it every night!

We have 2 dogs, one indoor, the other outdoor in her spacious pen with a choice of 3 warm kennels and a full shelter.

Pepe, the indoor dog is 9 years old and his/our only problem is barking at anything that goes past the house, either on foot or wheels. Luckily we live in the country, so not much goes past, but he barks sometimes for no apparent reason. He gets walked twice daily, is a happy dog, good with most other dogs, cats and behaves well apart from the bark.

We think we've tried everything, including all the recommended training suggestions and latterly an anti-bark collar.

    Nada!

We hope to learn something here and would appreciate any help from anyone who has had a similar problem and managed to cure it.

We also hope that we can help others with problems we have overcome in the past.

    Re: Hola from Spain

Hola!  and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Dogs tend to bark at things in their territory and their territory is as far as their eye can see. :)   Unfortunately, since I assume when you aren't there the dog has his freedom in the house, without consistent correction, nothing will really stop that kind of alert barking.

Did you try getting your dog to bark by exciting him and teaching him the command "speak".  Then you teach "quiet".  At least then you could have your dog to limit the barking by stopping it on command when you are home.

I have been somewhat successful with limiting the excited barking of my dog, but yesterday I walked in front of the porch outside and heard the dog inside go crazy because he didn't recognize me.  If you aren't there to catch him in the act, you can't correct them.
