  • Both Agression Types in One Dog?

I've had a English Springer Spaniel from the pound for just under a week (she's 2.5).  She seems to occassionally demonstrate fear agression (nipping and retreating, cowering around new people) around people, and dominance agression around dogs (she is turfy of her new dog bed etc). Is it possible for a dog to exhibit both?  In both ...

  • Terrified Rescue (pit bull)

It all started about 3 days ago my wife agreed to watch a puppy over night for a friend. In some amazing act of God the dog got out somehow and ran off. The next morning we called the local shelter and she was there. After work my wife ventured out to pick the dog up from the shelter and return it to her owner. While at the shelter picking up the ...

  • Re: Fleas -- PLEASE help

Regardless of what you use on each animal, it sounds as though your home is infested as well. It's important to make certain that you not only care for the animals, but rid your house of them as well. Most likely fogging is going to be necessary. You might consider investing in a ''yard'' treatment as well, just to get them under control. Then ...

  • Re: Just a quick question.

From your post, it sounds as if when she is playing you are not interacting with her? Is that correct? You have a great opportunity to integrate her love for her toys with obedience. Give her ''scheduled'' playtime with you, and remember nothing in life is free. Make her work for each and every toy,and while this may not be fun in your mind, it's ...

  • I have a quandry ?

All of my life I have not only had numerous dogs, but been a breeder with at least one litter on the ground at any given time..After my husband left me in 01, I was reduced to 4 dogs...A happy number...A complete family.. :-)One dog was killed by a car, one was stolen, then another killed by a stud dog owner (I won't go there)..So then there ...

  • Re: Training Basic Behaviors

Andrea, Many do not want their names or businesses shown because some cut and paste and post to other websites without permission. The Yahoo Groups had a huge problem with that for awhile. I forget the ''cyberworld'' term for it, but it's serious. It made me more aware to watch what I say! lol

  • Re: Treadmill exercise

Malinda, First, I understand you can't help your work schedule, but this is a long time for the dog to not have exercise. I also understand the use of a treadmill, but please don't think that a treadmill will REPLACE the walk. It won't. I suggest that you do BOTH. Walk the dog and offer a treadmill. Have you considered hiring a dog walker the ...

  • Re: Reaching out..

Lindsay & Ryan, Yes, it's sad our society doesn't make rooms for the animals that find themselves homeless and abandoned...and it's GREAT that you want to save their lives. But PLEASE consider what you are about to embark upon. Operating a shelter of any kind has daily operating costs. If you are looking at buildings from 60k - 90k, then ...

  • Re: Carting?

Brendon and Alana, I didn't want you to think you were being ignored. Try walking your dog with a harness and see what he does. If either of you rollerblade, get him in front of you and watch how quickly he takes off. I would assume that he in need of a job. One thing you CAN do is place a backpack on him (only 10% of his body weight in teh ...
