  • I am the pack leader! Too well trained

I have my spaniel and lab wiemeranner walking calm and submissive and its great I want to take the bigger dog out on his own and have him pull me on my skates(as i skate in a roller derby team here) but now I am so much the leader that Jenner wont walk in front of me at all, tried exciting him and everything. • Exploration breaks during walks

I have a question about exploration breaks during walks.  I have been working on the Exercise/Discipline/Affection formula with my two rescue mixed breeds for two months now.  One dog has anxiety/dominance issues, the other has aggression issues.  While we've made progress on our walks, and they are much more enjoyable than before, I wonder about ...

  • Puppy scared of passing/running cars

Hope someone can help us! We have a 5 mo old Shepard/Border collie mix from a shelter. (She was there about three days). She's generally sweet, smart and interested in everything but in the last month has developed from a fearless take her on a walk into town puppy to one who cowers and tries to run at the sound of cars..whether they are moving or ...

  • Exercise during hunting season and nights/mornings

I live in Central PA, in the woods. There are no streetlights and 3/4 of the year it's a great area to hike and bike with my dog. However, today was the first day of Buck season and it's not safe to go outside if not in a moving vehicle (even then, sometimes not safe) and despite putting him in a flourescent orange vest, Obie *still* looks like a ...

  • Puppy Doesn't Like Kitchen Tile

Hi there! We have a new Bordernese puppy, Daisy, who we just picked up this past Tuesday.  She is 9 weeks old, and was the runt, but is very calm and sweet.  The only thing that I find odd is that she doesn't really have any interest in exploring her new home, and especially, won't walk on the linoleum in our kitchen!  She spends ...

  • Puppy walking (and other tidbits!)

Hello! I'm new to the community, and figured I'd make a post here about my little guy, Titus. He is a beautiful Irish Setter puppy at about 12 weeks old.  He is very loving and affectionate and loves people.  He's done so well over the last 3 weeks I have had him.  My main question about him is walking him.  How long is too ...

  • New baby Chihuahua mix

Hi, I just got a 10 week old Chihuahua mix. She is sweet and pretty well behaved so far. I do have one question. She hates to walk on the leash. I am following Cesar's  lead and just walking, but I can only go about 3-5 feet before I am afraid that I am choking her, because she just drags. So I walk a little, stop, walk a little, ...

  • Walking around strange dogs that are loose...

I have taken notice as to how Cesar introduces one dog to another.  My dog has always been submissive to other dogs and I've never had a problem...until a few weeks ago.  We were walking (me, baby in stroller, and dog by my side) around a 1 mile circle at my mom's house.  One of her neighbors allow their two dogs to run loose.  ...

  • Bloody Lips

Hello everyone,   I'm new to the group. I have a five month old male beagle. I noticed yesterday for the first time, that his upper lips were bleeding when we came in from our walk. I realized that this is happening because on our walk, his nose is pressed to the pavement (powerful beagle sense of smell) and it just scuffed on the asphalt. This ...

  • Re: HELP!!!! He is torturing me!!!

Snoopy, One thing to do immediately is to ''stop'' when he starts to pull. When you have tension on a leash with dogs who pull, this encourages them to pull harder. I didn't see where you mentioned his breed, but I suspect the tighter the leash, the more the thinks he has to ''work''. I have found that a Pulling dog is a dog that isn't ''calm'' ...
